Life insurance: Negative net inflows in October 2020

Net inflows for October 2020 were –€154 million. Insurance life premiums amounted to €10.9 billion, of which 34% were payments to unit-linked products. Paid-out benefits in October amounted to €11.0 billion.
From the start of the year 2020:
- Net inflows remained negative at -€7.3 billion (compared with positive net inflows of €22.3 billion in the first 10 months of 2019),
- cumulative life insurance contributions reached €93.0 billion (€121.6 billion over the same period in 2019). Payments to unit-linked products accounted for €31.8 billion i.e. 34 % of premiums (26% over the same period in 2019),
- the total amount of benefits paid out amounted to €100.3 billion (€99.3 billion over the same period in 2019) and therefore exceeded the total amount of contributions received by insurers.
At the end of October 2020, in-force life insurance business stood at €1,753 billion. The proportion of this outstanding amount invested in corporate assets (stocks, bonds, real estate) reached 60%: it is now therefore nearly €1,100 billion that contribute to financing businesses.
