Life insurance: Negative net inflows in November 2020

Net inflows for November 2020 were -€30 million and keep getting closer to balance, month after month. Insurance life premiums amounted to €10.4 billion, of which 34% were payments to unit-linked products. Paid-out benefits in November amounted to €10.5 billion.

From the start of the year 2020:

  1. Net inflows remained negative at -€7.3 billion (compared with positive net inflows of €23.3 billion in the first 11 months of 2019).
  2. Cumulative life insurance contributions reached €103.5 billion (€132.8 billion over the same period in 2019). Payments to unit-linked products accounted for €35.3 billion i.e. 34% of premiums (27% over the same period in 2019 for €35.2 billion),
  3. The total amount of benefits paid out amounted to 110.8 billion (€109.5 billion over the same period in 2019) and therefore exceeded the total amount of contributions received by insurers.

At the end of November 2020, in-force life insurance business stood at €1,785 billion. The proportion of this outstanding amount invested in corporate assets (stocks, bonds, real estate) exceeded 60%: it is now therefore nearly €1,100 billion that contribute to financing businesses.
